August 31st, 2023: Google has brought a new way to search the internet in India and Japan. Called SGE, or Search Generative Experience, this feature was first given to users in the United States. Now people in India and Japan can also use it if they choose to.
Google said, “SGE uses generative AI to give answers. You can type or talk to search. In India, you can use English or Hindi. You can even listen to the answers.”
This feature is part of Google’s bigger aim to make search better. Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, said at the Google I/O conference, “Our AI can answer new types of questions and help you more.”
What makes SGE different?
It does not just use Google’s usual way to find information. It uses a big language machine called PaLM 2 to give better answers.
People can find different views on a topic and can learn more about what they are searching for.
But SGE is not like Google’s chatbot Bard. Bard talks like a person and can even write code. SGE is for helping you find what you want on the internet, like something to buy or learn.
People in Japan can use this in their own language.

In India, the feature is in English and Hindi. Users can even switch languages easily. In both countries, you will still see ads when you search.

Google’s new search tool is also a rival to Microsoft’s Bing. The company hopes that SGE will make people want to use Google more than other search engines.
Young people seem to like SGE the most. They ask questions in a way that is more like talking. Google said that people also find the ads useful.
Soon, users can click an arrow next to information to go to the source website. This will let them learn even more.
